Deogarh: With inedible wild fruits and biodegradable items like sea shells and conches to decorate the pandals and plates made of leaves and bamboo to serve prasad, Odisha is making a huge statement by going green this Durga Puja.
A pandal in Deogarh, however, is drawing attention for a different reason. The Utkal Durga Puja Committee here has put up banners outside the mandap to create awareness among devotee on various social issues like ‘No To Child Marriage’, ‘Save Water & Forest’, ‘Save Girl Child’, ‘Swachh Deogarh’ and traffic rules and regulations.
The committee did so following a request from Deogarh SP Rahul Jain, who presented a memento and a letter of appreciation to the members appreciating their efforts on Monday.
Since the implementation of the new Motor Vehicle Act, Odisha police has been taking steps to make people aware of the different traffic rules and penalties for the violations. And what better way to spread the message than a pandal that witnesses huge footfall during the Puja festivities!
