This University In Odisha To Offer Course In Happiness From Next Academic Session

Bhubaneswar: Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) in Odisha’s Sambalpur is set to roll out the long-proposed Diploma in Happiness course from the next academic year.

According to sources, the issue of space crunch, which earlier delay its launch, has been resolved with the university’s Basantpur campus becoming fully functional.

The six-month course aims to reduce stress, improve patience and boost self-confidence amid growing concerns over mental health issues and rising stress levels among students across the state. “The course will focus on emotional intelligence, stress management, mindfulness and decision-making, addressing challenges from social media, lifestyle changes, and academic pressure through structured learning and interactive sessions,” Deputy registrar of GMU Uma Charan Pati told the media.

Pati further stated that syllabus of the course was discussed during a meeting on Monday and the varsity may consider extending the duration of the course or upgrade it to a degree programme based on feedback following its launch.

This apart, the university will also launch a Gender Studies programme offering both certificate and diploma options.  Both programmes will be interdisciplinary, covering subjects such as life sciences, health sciences, sociology, psychology, philosophy and anthropology, with faculty from various departments contributing to teaching.
