Raipur: Journalists here have found a unique way of registering their protest against BJP leader Rajeev Agarwal. Hundreds of them reported to work donning helmet to protect themselves from Agarwal who was arrested last Saturday for thrashing a local journalist Suman Pandey.
On Wednesday, journalists in the city started interacting with BJP leaders wearing a helmet as a form of protest against the incident, said Raipur Press Club president Damu Amedare.
The journalists, including women reporters were seen donning helmets covering events, press conferences or collecting sound bytes.
The local BJP unit, however, saw the use of helmets as a way of sensationalising the matter as it has already apologised the thrashing of the journalist.
BJP state office in-charge Subhash Rao said media persons last Saturday were asked to leave after taking photos and interactions, but Pandey stayed back and began “spying on the proceedings of the BJP meeting by video recording so party members threw him out”, he said.
On Thursday also, the journalists were seen covered in helmet as they began the day covering the daily happenings around.
