Berhampur: Police arrested three persons for allegedly attempting to kidnap and sacrifice a minor girl in Aska of Ganjam district on Saturday night.
According to sources, some people had offered Rs 30,000 to Swaraj Gouda (23) of Chasa Pital village under Aska police station to sell his sister. They intended to perform the sacrifice of the girl.
After Swaraj refused to the offer, 8 people including a sorcerer attacked Swaraj with sword and tried to kidnap the girl on September 4 night. As Swaraj raised an alarm, the villagers rushed to the spot and the miscreants fled.
Later, Swaraj filed an FIR at Aska police station regarding the incident. Following investigation, police arrested three accused identified as Chitrasen Tarai and Panchanan Gouda from Aska and Amiya Kumar Swain from Ramchandrapur.
“We have registered a case under Sections 363, 364, 370, 511, 307, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” said IIC Prasant Kumar Sahu. The police have also seized two swords and one bike from them, he added.
However, the sorcerer and four other miscreants are absconding.
