Cuttack: Three wagons of a goods train derailed near Sikharpur level crossing here on Sunday.
According to reports, the incident took place around 11:50 am due to a suspected technical glitch. The train carrying cement was on its way to Cuttack from Jharsuguda.
According to railway sources, one wagon, 13th from rear, got derailed and blocked train movements on UP line for sometimes. While 12821 Howrah-Puri Dhauli Express was stranded at Kapilas Road, 12815 New Delhi-Puri Nandankanan Express at Dhanmandal and 12703 Howrah-Secunderabad Express at Haridaspur for a few minutes following the mishap.
On getting information, railway officials immediately rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Accident Relief Train from Khurda Road left at 12.45 pm for relief work and was engaged to pull the rear portion. The line was cleared at 1.50 pm and train services resumed in next five minutes, the sources said.
As modernisation work is on at Cuttack Station, the train was allowed to move on the track on an experimental basis, the sources added.
