Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface wind and hail may continue in Odisha till February 24 with trough in westerlies running from Gangetic West Bengal to south Chhattisgarh across Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.
FEBRUARY 23
Orange Warning
Thunderstorm with lightning, gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and hail may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore districts.
The weather agency has warned of minor damage to loose/unsecured structures, banana trees and ripe paddy crops in these three districts.
Yellow Warning
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati and Ganjam.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at a few places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Bhadrak, Balasore, and at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.
FEBRUARY 24
Yellow Warning
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore.
Light rain or thundershower is also likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Gajapati and Ganjam.
People have been advised to keep watch on weather and move to safer places during the thunderstorm activity to protect from lightning.
There is no weather warning thereafter.
The IMD further informed that there would be no large change in the night temperature during the next 4-5 days across the state.
