Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Tuesday issued thunderstorm warning for seven districts of Odisha.
The alert has been sounded for Nuapada, Kandhamal, Balangir, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagarh districts.
According to the IMD bulletin, latest Doppler weather radar and satellite images indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph is likely to occur at these districts between 3:15 pm and 7:15 pm.
People in these areas have been advised to stay indoors and take shelter in nearby buildings and other safe locations.
As per a release by the local Met office on Tuesday evening, temperature went up to 40 degree Celsius and above at 12 places in Odisha with Jharsuguda emerging as the hottest place at 44.4 degree Celsius followed by Hirakud (44.1), Sambalpur (43.6), Bolangir (43.5), Talcher (43.1), Angul (42.7), Sundergarh (42.5), Bhawanipatna (42), Malkangiri (41.8), Sonepur (41.3), Dhenkanal (40.5) and Keonjhar (40).
Barring the twin cities of Cuttack (35.5), Bhubaneswar (36) Chandbali (38.4) and Balasore (36.5), temperature came down to 35 degree Celsius and below in the remaining coastal areas.
The western disturbance currently located over Jammu & Kashmir is very likely to move eastwards during the next 24 hrs and become unimportant.
As per the forecast by IMD, a cyclonic circulation in lower levels lies over Haryana and its neighbourhood. It would move eastwards towards West Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hrs and become less marked thereafter. A north-south trough runs along longitude 880E to the north of 240N. It is very likely to move slowly eastwards during the next three days.
A fresh western disturbance very likely to affect western Himalayan region from May 13 onwards.
An easterly wave with an embedded lower level cyclonic circulation is very likely to affect states of Southern Peninsula during next one week.
Under the influence of above two systems, widespread thunderstorm activity would occur over northwest, central, east, northeast and peninsular India from May 13 onwards.
During the period, heavy rains would occur at one or two places in south Odisha.
