Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activity along with gusty wind and light to moderate rain may continue in Odisha till October 10, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.
It further stated that the trough from north Bihar and neighbourhood to north Odisha across Jharkhand has become less marked.
The weather agency has issued a yellow warning for districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati, where thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur on October 6-7-8.
Similar weather conditions may prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts on October 9-10.
Light to moderate rain is also likely at a few places across the state till October 9, and at one or two places in Coastal Odisha and districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri during the subsequent 6 days.
Dry weather may prevail in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj from October 10-16, it added.
However, heavy rain may resume in the state again amid forecast about a fresh cyclonic circulation/low pressure area over north Bay of Bengal around October 9.
According to IMD’s extended rage outlook, IMD-GFS model is indicating the development of an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Andaman Sea around October 5 with north-northwestwards movement towards north Bay of Bengal and formation of a low-pressure area over north Bay of Bengal around October 9.
