Thunderstorm, Rain & Gusty Wind To Lash Bhubaneswar In 3 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued nowcast warning for three districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar, till 8.20 pm on Tuesday.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph along with light to moderate rain is likely in some parts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Khurda, including the state capital, in next 3 hours.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

Notably, the MeT office had issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack and Khurda till 8.30 am on Wednesday. Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely at some places in Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Keonjhar ,Mayurbhanj and Dhenkanal during this period. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain at a few places in North Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at one or two places in South Coastal Odisha, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput.

While heatwave is likely to scorch interior Odisha for 5 days, thunderstorm and lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is also likely in coastal and adjoining districts till May 18, it added.
