Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm accompanied with hail and rain is likely over 16 districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours, a bulletin issued by the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The districts likely to be affected are Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Jajpur, Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Puri, Ganjam, Angul and Khurda.
According to the bulletin, thunderstorm accompanied with hail and gusty wind speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph may occur at these places.
Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail in many parts of the state till May 11, the bulletin added.
Meanwhile, a local Met office said in the evening on Thursday said the temperature went up to 40 degree Celsius and above at 11 places in Odisha with Bolangir continuing to remain as the hottest place for the second day at 43.5 degree Celsius followed by Sundergarh (43), Angul (42.1), Jharsuguda (42.5), Sambalpur (41.6), Sonepur (43.2), Hirakud (40.1), Titlagarh (43), Talcher (42.4), Bhawanipatna (40) and Dhenkanal (40.1).
Barring the twin city of Cuttack (36.5), Bhubaneswar (37.2) Chandbali (38.2) and Balasore (37.7), temperature remained under 35 degree Celsius in the remaining coastal areas.
Though temperature remained below 40 degree Celsius in the capital city, intense humid conditions made the life of the denizens miserable.
The average humidity in the coastal pockets was 76 percent with highest humidity of 88 percent in Gopalpur.
