Thunderstorm, Rain Likely In Bhubaneswar & Cuttack In 2 Hrs; Orange Alert With Gusty Wind For 4 Dists

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday sounded yellow and orange alerts of thunderstorm activity and rain for several districts of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, till 11 am.

Light to moderate thunderstorm with gusty wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph, lightning and light to moderate rain may occur in some parts of Nabarangour, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Balangir districts in 2 hours.

Light to moderate thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rain warning has also been issued for Khurda (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack (including Cuttack), Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, Sundargarh, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj during this period.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.

The weather agency further informed that rain had been continuing in districts of Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Balangir.

It had earlier forecast thundershower and rain at several places in the state in the next 3 days. It had also mentioned about fall in the day temperature by 4-6 degree Celsius during this period.

According the weather agency, conditions are becoming favourable for thunderstorm activity with lightning, hail, heavy rain, gusty surface wind and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in Odisha due to likely interaction of middle dry westerly with lower level moisture-laden winds from Bay of Bengal.
