Thunderstorm, Rain & Gusty Wind To Lash Odisha For 2 Days; Sultry Conditions To Continue
Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activity with gusty wind and rain is likely to continue in Odisha for 2 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
Orange warning for thunderstorm with lightning, squall and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph has been issued for one or two places in Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada till 8.30 am on Saturday. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Balasore, Puri, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Boudh. There is also a forecast for light to moderate rain at a few places in coastal Odisha, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and at one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, keonjhar, Angul, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nuapada during this period.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for another 24 hours. Light to moderate rain is also likely at one or two places in coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangapur.
While there is no further warning, the state may experience light to moderate rain for another 3 days.
The MeT office further said that there will be no large change in the day temperature at many places in Odisha during the next 5 days. “It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more during next 2 days and at a few places during subsequent 3 days at one or two places in Interior Odisha – Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Jharsuguda and Nuapada.”
People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm.
On Thursday, 21 places recorded temperature of 40 degrees Celsius or more with Sonepur being the hottest at 44.2 degree Celsius followed by Nuapada at 44 degree Celsius.
