Dhaka: The father of a Hindu man who was killed by a mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district on Friday revealed gory details of the crime.
The youth, identified as 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally killed amid widespread unrest and violence in Bangladesh following the death of youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi.
His father Ravilal Das said Dipu’s body was tied to a tree and set on fire.
Speaking to NDTV, he said that the family initially heard about the incident on Facebook, but soon more people started talking about it.
“We found out about it when someone told me he was beaten badly. Half an hour later, my uncle came and told me they took my son and tied him to a tree. Then they poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. His burned body was left outside,” Ravilal said about the “horrible” incident.
The victim’s father went on to state that the Bangladesh government, under interim chief adviser Muhammad Yunus, did not provide any assurance to the family.
“No one from the government has given any assurance. No one said anything,” Ravilal told NDTV.
The Yunus administration on Friday condemned the killing. Yunus, in a statement on social media, said seven people had been arrested in connection with the lynching.
