Bhubaneswar: DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Monday reviewed all the security arrangements ahead of the Men’s Hockey World Cup. The inaugural ceremony will be held on Tuesday, in which Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and music maestro A. R. Rahman will perform.
DGP Sharma said that traffic movement would be restricted security tightened on the occasion. “There will be more than 50 police officers above DSP rank in various supervisory roles. There will be Inspectors, Sub Inspectors and ASIs too. In total, we have deployed more than 300 officers on duty. As many as 75 platoons of police force will be on duty. Most of them are OSAP platoons. Some platoons are from other battalions also,” informed Sharma.
He also said this is one of the toughest challenges for the Odisha Police. Along with the Hockey World Cup, a few other annual and important events are on in Odisha capital. Bali Jatra in Cuttack is one of them, he added.
“The opening ceremony of the hockey tournament will take place tomorrow. Many celebrities are coming for the ceremony. It will attract and generate a lot of interest among the people. Our main objective is to ensure that the entire event is held peacefully, without any unpleasant incidents. We have made multiple arrangements for that at different locations,” said Sharma.
Proper security arrangements have been made from the airport to the hotels where the teams will be staying and from there to the stadium, he said.
“There will be separate gates for the audience, organizers, players and mediapersons during the opening ceremony. The general public will enter from gate no three and four of the stadium. The direction chart to the venue has been given on the tickets,” he added.
“We will also take care of sanitisation in the venue,” he informed. Commissioner of Police, Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will be the overall incharge of the police arrangement.
