Bhubaneswar: An 18-year-old tigress ‘Rebati’ died at Nandanankanan Zoo
on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.
“Since last two months, the tigress was not consuming sufficient food
due to old age-related ailments. The animal was undergoing treatment
at the ICU of zoo hospital for the last 20 days. However, it succumbed
at around 5:30 am”, a zoo official said.
The animal was born to tiger named Rohit and tigress Shailaza on July
3, 1999. She had no offspring.
With Rebati’s death, the total number of tigers in the zoo has reduced
to 24, including 16 normal coloured and eight white tigers. The total
number of tigresses in the zoo stood at 12.
