Washington: Social media network TikTok has approached a US judge to stop the Donald Trump administration from banning its app in the country.
ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, filed a complaint on Friday night in the Washington federal court, challenging US President Trump’s executive order, Bloomberg News reported.
The complaint argues that Trump has exceeded his authority in banning the app, and has done so for political reasons. It doesn’t present an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the US as claimed, ByteDance stated.
The US government has issued a ban on TikTok downloads and another Chinese app WeChat, from September 20.
TikTok and numerous other Chinese apps have been banned in India as well, following the skirmish on the Indo-China border.
