Times Business Awards 2024: Odisha Aims To Be Among Top 5 Industrialised States, Says CM Mohan Majhi
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi shared his vision for a Vibrant Odisha by 2036 during the 5th edition of the Times Business Awards Odisha, organised by The Times of India in collaboration with Odisha Bytes, in Bhubaneswar on October 22.
Majhi spoke about the state’s abundant natural resources, strategic advantages, and government policies aimed at attracting investment. “Our government has created a safe and welcoming environment for investors, and we are confident of achieving a top-five ranking in industrialisation. With plans to attract investments worth over a lakh crore in the coming years, Odisha is set to shine not only in tourism but also in industry,” he said.
He emphasised on the need to reform legacy systems, diversify the economy, and reduce dependency on agriculture. He also highlighted successful initiatives like Subhadra Yojana and the government’s efforts to create a business-friendly environment. “Our vision is to engage more people in sectors like manufacturing and services, paving the way for a vibrant and prosperous Odisha. We aim to achieve the goal of Viksit Odisha along with Viksit Bharat by 2047,” he said while outlining an ambitious vision for the state, aspiring to become a $500 billion economy by 2036 and a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047, aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat.
Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain emphasised on the state’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly ecosystem. He spoke about initiatives to enhance ease of doing business, skill development, and attracting investments in sectors like mining, minerals, and steel industries, which would create employment opportunities for the youth. He also highlighted the government’s proactive approach to building infrastructure and streamlining processes to encourage more investments in Odisha’s industrial landscape.
The Times Business Awards Odisha 2024, which has been recognising outstanding achievements in business across India for over 15 years, celebrated achievements of business leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs contributing significantly to the state’s economic growth. It featured over 40 categories, including Best Startup, Innovative Business Leader, and Corporate Social Responsibility, spotlighting key sectors such as manufacturing, technology, hospitality, and agriculture.
The event also provided a valuable platform for business leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs to connect, collaborate, and exchange ideas.
Director of Alliance Française du Bengale Nicolas Facino was also present on the occasion and spoke on the growing economic and cultural ties between France and Odisha. He acknowledged the presence of several French companies in Odisha and the establishment of an Alliance Française branch in the state, symbolising a shared vision of fostering business and cultural collaboration.
Bollywood celebrity Sushmita Sen graced the event as a special guest, adding glamour to the evening’s celebrations.
The welcome address was delivered by Chief Business Officer of the Times of India Rohit Dhar and the vote of thanks given by Group Editor of Odisha Bytes Sandeep Mishra.
