Mumbai: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has terminated 100 staff members, including 55 teaching faculty members, across all its four campuses.
The employees were reportedly dismissed without prior notice. They received termination letter on Friday, saying that their contract will not be renewed “in the event of non-receipt of approval/ grant from Tata Education Trust” and service ends on June 30, 2024, reported The Hindu.
“Nearly a hundred institute staff members which were previously funded by the Tata Education Trust will become unemployed after years of service at TISS,” the institute’s Progressive Students’ Forum said in a statement while blaming it on current leadership of TISS administration and apathy of the BJP-led government.
“We have been speaking to the Tata Trust officials for several months. But they have not yet released any salary to pay these staff members. Even the last month’s salary of Rs 75 lakh was paid from the TISS reserve fund, which we are not supposed to use for payment of salary,” the TOI reported, quoting a senior TISS official.
