Tit For Tat: Russia Bans Airlines From 36 Countries
Moscow: Faced with heavy sanctions from several countries for invading Ukraine, Russia on Monday banned flights by airlines from 36 countries, including Britain and Germany.
A majority of European countries and Canada had earlier banned Russian planes from entering their airspace.
According to Russia’s civil aviation authority, the move was “a retaliatory measure for the ban by European states on flights by civil aviation operated by Russian airlines or registered in Russia.”
Airlines from these banned nations will be able to enter Russian airspace only with a special permit.
European Union on Sunday closed its airspace to Russian aircraft, including private jets.
All these bans will result in long detours for some airlines on certain routes and a rise in ticket prices.
