Kolkata: Soon after TMC heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari joined BJP and fired the first salvo of “bhaipo hatao” (remove extortionist nephew) on Saturday, the ruling party’s Serampore MP Kalyan Banerjee termed him as a ‘traitor’.
Jolted by a minor tremor with desertion of nine MLAs within 48 hours, senior Trinamool Congress leaders hurdled at the residence of their supremo Mamata Banerjee at Kalighat late evening.
Apparently fielded by the TMC to take on Suvendu following the Kalighat meeting, the MP said Suvendu has admitted in his speech that he has been in touch with BJP’s Amit Shah since 2014.
“How was such a traitor born in the land of Vidyasagar and Khudiram? Despite being a minister of the TMC, he was in touch with the opposition party. He is a perfect example of a traitor,” Kalyan said.
“If the party was so rotten for you, why didn’t you leave earlier? Does it not mean that you are the one who is rotten? As a transport minister he couldn’t launch a programme like Safe Drive Save Life. This proves his incompetence,” slammed Kalyan.
Taking a potshot at Amit Shah, he said the Union Home Minister does not understand the politics of West Bengal and also that Mamata Banerjee would come to power for a third term in 2021.
“Nobody believes Shah because of the lies he has been spreading on a regular basis. The people, who are joining the BJP today, are those who have suffered under it. Shah is forced to lie about these people by putting a false spin to the news,” claimed the MP.
Taking a swipe at Shah’s criticism against family-centric politics, Kalyan said, “Suvendu is from an influential political family. Shah’s son too is a top official of BCCI. But no one from Mamata Banerjee’s family is interested to become the next chief minister of the state.”
