Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal against BJP’s Medinipur MP Dilip Ghosh for issuing “derogatory and offensive” remarks against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The TMC, in her complaint, said no political party or candidate should engage in activities or issue statements amounting to attacks on an individual’s personal life or malicious statements that offend decency and morality.
Stating that Ghosh had made distorted and disrespectful statements against Mamata, the ruling party urged the CEC for taking prompt and stringent action against the MP for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
In a video clip that has now gone viral on social media, Ghosh is seen mocking TMC’s slogan of ‘Bangla nijer meye ke chai (Bengal wants its own daughter)’. He said Mamata should first clarify the ‘identity of her father.’
“When she goes to Goa, she says she is the daughter of Goa. In Tripura, she says she is the daughter of Tripura. First, let her clarify,” PTI quoted Ghosh as saying.
