Tokyo: The Indian men’s archery team defeated Kazakhstan 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Olympics on Monday.
The Indian team comprising Atanu Das, Pravin Jadhav and seasoned campaigner Tarundeep Rai got the better of the Kazakhstan team of Denis Gankin, Ilfat Abdullin and Sanzhar Mussayev in a close encounter. All four sets of the match were decided by a single point.
India will face top seeds South Korea in the next round.
Ninth-seeded India took the lead against Kazakhstan winning the first set 55-54 with Jadhav and Das scoring a 10 each in the last two arrows. Indians won the second round 52-51 as the Kazakhs faltered.
Kazakhstan fought back from being down 0-4 in the third set, but the Indians notched up the fourth set 55-54 to assure a quarterfinal berth.
