Tokyo: India’s Avani Lekhara grabbed the gold medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing (SH1) event at the Tokyo Paralympics on Monday.
The Indian shooter achieved a Paralympics record of 249.6 to win the yellow metal. China’s Cuiping Zhang got silver with the 248.9 while Ukrainian Iryna Shchetnik took the bronze medal with a total of 227.5.
The 19-year-old Avani had sustained spinal cord injuries in a car accident in 2012. The teenager qualified seventh for the final but shot superbly to jump to the top in the final.
