Tokyo: No parties, no sex.
Those are among the more significant conditions that athletes will have to follow if they stay in the Games Village in Tokyo during the Olympics later this year.
The guidelines, issued by International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the first of four ‘playbooks’, bars physical contact for those sportspersons taking part in the Tokyo Olympics which were rescheduled from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The playbook says that athletes will have to avoid handshakes and hugs, and maintain a distance of two metres when physically interacting with other athletes, and one metre otherwise.
Also, athletes won’t be allowed to venture out for sightseeing and even shopping in the airport on arrival.
“You must not visit tourist areas, shops, restaurants or bars,” states the rulebook.
Participants will be barred from using public transport without permission, and masks will have to be worn at all times except while eating or sleeping.
Those travelling to Tokyo as athletes, officials, delegates will be monitored daily from 14 days prior to departure with their health status updated on a mobile app.
Every traveller will have to undergo COVID-19 test before departure, on arrival and, thereafter, at least every four days. Those who test positive will be isolated in a government-approved facility.
