Toll Rises To 8 In Andhra Train Crash; Trains Cancelled, Diverted
Bhubaneswar: At least eight persons died and 25 were injured when coaches of Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train and Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger Special derailed after collision in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district around 7 pm on Sunday, PTI reported quoting officials.
According to East Coast Railway (ECoR), two coaches of Visakhapatnam-Palasa Passenger train from the rear and the loco of Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger got derailed in the accident, which is being attributed to overshooting of signal by Visakhapatnam- Rayagada passenger train.
While explaining the term overshooting, the CPRO said it occurs when a train, instead of stopping at a red signal, moves on.

The ECoR has also arranged for free bus service to take stranded passengers up to Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. Food and water also distributed to the passengers of affected trains.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief over the death of some passengers in a train accident between Kantakapali and Almonda stations.
The CM has conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families. He also wished speedy recovery of the injured passengers.
Naveen has also directed the Special Relief Commissioner and collectors of Raygada and Koraput to extend immediate help in rescue and relief operations.
The ECoR also informed about cancellation, partial cancellation, diversion and short termination of some trains because of the accident.

C. 07468 Visakhapatnam-Vizianagaram Special from Visakhapatnam on 29.10.2023 will run up to Pendurti and will return back to Visakhapatnam as Special Train.
D. 11019 Mumbai-Bhubaneswar Konark Express from Mumbai on 28.10.2023 will run up to Visakhapatnam and will remain cancelled from Visakhapatnam to Bhubaneswar.
E. 11020 Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express from Bhubaneswar on 30.10.2023 will originate from Visakhapatnam instead of Bhubaneswar and will remain cancelled from Bhubaneswar to Visakhapatnam.
