Bhubaneswar: TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and Odisha government of Odisha, has made comprehensive preparations to ensure safe and uninterrupted power supply during Rath Yatra in Puri.
To cater to the massive influx of pilgrims and the subsequent surge in energy demand, TPCODL has fortified the electrical infrastructure and distribution network. This includes extensive maintenance of substations, transformers, underground cables and overhead power lines across the pilgrim town. Special arrangements have been made to provide uninterrupted electricity to Shree Jagannath Temple and core festival zones. The power network has been further strengthened with additional backup system to ensure quick restoration in the unlikely event of any disruption, a company release said.
In tandem with the local administration, TPCODL has conducted stringent electrical safety inspections across high-footfall areas, including Bada Danda (the Grand Road) and the beach front, installing preventive safeguards to protect devotees and residents alike.
To manage real-time operations, TPCODL will operate a central Master Control Room supported by dedicated control rooms across Puri. More than 800 trained personnel, including engineers and field staff, will remain deployed round the clock in shifts to monitor the network and respond swiftly to any power-related issue. Additionally, emergency materials and spare equipment have been strategically pre-positioned across the city, ensuring zero latency in response times. The company is also fast-tracking temporary power connections for essential festival utilities, pandals, and vendors.
