Cuttack: Police have arrested a businessman for selling duplicate watches of reputed brands from his shop in the city.
The police conducted a raid on the shop located in front of the bus terminus at Badambadi following a complaint lodged by a man on Wednesday night.
The complainant alleged that he had gone to buy a Fastrack watch from the shop. The shop-owner charged him a high price for the watch claiming it to be an original piece of the reputed brand. But the customer suspected the claim of the trader and approached the police.
During the raid, the police seized 884 pieces of duplicate watches of the brands like Fastrack, Sonata, Titan and others, said Zone-2 ACP Subha Narayan Muduli. The trader is suspected to be selling these watches in rural areas where those are in high demand.
Following the arrest, the police have forwarded the trader to court, Muduli said.
It may be noted that the Commissionerate Police had seized 150 duplicate TV sets from different areas of Bhubaneswar and arrested four persons last month.
