Sambalpur: In the highest penalty for traffic law violation in the country so far, transport authorities in Sambalpur have slapped a fine of Rs 6,53,100 lakh on a truck from Nagaland.
The incident, which had taken place on August 10, only came to light after the enforcement of the new Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2019.
Sources in the Regional Transport Office (RTO) here said the truck owner was fined Rs 6,40,500 for evading road tax since 2014, Rs 5,000 for taking passengers in a goods vehicle, Rs 5,000 for not having a route permit, Rs 1,000 for not having a pollution certificate and Rs 500 for violation of traffic rules.
