New Delhi: Country’s fastest train, the Vande Bharat (Train 18) Express broke down while returning to New Delhi after its inaugural run which was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
The train is reported to be stranded near Tundla in Uttar Pradesh, 200 km from New Delhi station. Reports in The New Indian Express said the brakes of the train had jammed and there was smoke with a foul smell emitting from one of the coaches. This happened at 5:30 am on Saturday.
The Indian Railways have clarified that the failure was caused by cattle coming under the wheels.
The train was carrying journalists back from Varanasi who had boarded to cover the inaugural journey. They were soon shifted to another train, reported NDTV.
The Railways said that the journey to Delhi resumed at 8 15 am after ‘removing the obstacle’. The affected coach was isolated, reports Hindustan Times.

Some reports said he train will be inspected in Delhi and there are speculations whether the technical snag can be repaired or not before the commercial run begins on Sunday.
The maximum speed that the train could attain is 130 kmph in this route and maintain an average speed of 95 kmph.
