Rayagada: A major accident was averted late last night when a large boulder fell onto the railway track near Majhigariani Temple in Odisha’s Rayagada district, halting train operations for around six hours.
The incident occurred when Visakhapatnam-Korba Link Express, en route to Korba, entered Rayagada. The train reportedly dragged the boulder for about a kilometre before halting permanently. It remained stranded for nearly five hours as the incident damaged the tracks.
Railway rescue teams quickly responded, removing the boulder and repairing the track. Single-line operations resumed at around 5 am after the disruption.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has launched an investigation.
