Jajpur: After a 15-hour-long rescue operation, normal train operations resumed at Korei railway station in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Tuesday.

According to sources, trains are running on both up and down lines with speed restrictions. Two goods trains and a passenger train crossed the Korei station on Tuesday morning.

However, the railway officials informed that no train will stop at the station as the restoration work after the accident is yet to be completed.

The following trains will not provide stoppage at Korei for 5 days:

18038/18037 Jajpur Keonjhar Road-Bhadrak

08454/08453 Cuttack-Bhadrak-Cuttack Passenger Special

08438/08437 Cuttack-Bhadrak-Cuttack Passenger Special

08412/08411 Bhubaneswar-Balasore-Bhubaneswar Passenger Special.

This is due to the evacuation of grounded wagons from the platform, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) informed.

Notably, ECoR General Manager Roop Narayan Sunkar and Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), M M Choudhury visited the spot on Monday for a preliminary examination of the place before a proper probe is launched.

It is pertinent to mention here that three women were killed after 8 wagons of the goods train, en route to Chhatrapur in Odisha from Dongoaposi in Jharkhand, derailed and rammed into the foot overbridge, reaching up to its roof, at Korei. Among the deceased, Parbati (55) & her daughter Kandhei (26) were waiting for a passenger train to reach Cuttack for the latter’s MRI scan as she had developed a tumour in the abdomen. Kandhei’s 2.5-month-old son, Biswajit, however, had a miraculous escape, and so also her husband Balarama, who had gone to fetch tea and biscuits for them.
