Dhenkanal: A trainee pilot sustained critical injuries after a VT-EUW aircraft crashed at Birasal airstrip at Kamakhyanagar in Odisha’s Dhenkanal on Monday.
According to sources, the flight fell from a height of 15 feet between 2.30 pm and 3 pm. The injured pilot, identified as Kiran Malik of Maharastra, was initially rushed to Birasal Community Health Centre (CHC) and then shifted to Kamakshyanagar hospital.
The trainee pilot was flying solo in the aircraft. He had enrolled with the Government Aviation Training Institute (GATI) for pilot training. The airstrip authorities have intimated the incident to GATI’s headquarters in Bhubaneswar, sources added.
It is pertinent to mention here that a two-seater aircraft crashed here, killing a trainee pilot and her instructor, in June 2020.
