Trainees Benefit From Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Programme At Bhubaneswar’s SUM Hospital
Bhubaneswar: Doctors and nursing officers received hands-on training from paediatricians and neonatologists on various aspects of Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Programme (NRP) at a workshop organised at Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here.
The workshop, organised by the postgraduate department of Paediatrics in association with the Bhubaneswar city branch of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), was attended by 24 trainees.
Inaugurating the programme, Prof. (Dr) Pusparaj Samantasinhar, Medical Superintendent of IMS and SUM Hospital, underlined the importance of doctors counselling the patients.
“The duty of doctors is not only to treat patients and care for them, but also to reassure them,” he said.
The focus should be on how quickly treatment can be extended to an ailing infant, he added.
Dr Pankaj Mohanty, Additional Professor in department of Paediatrics, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, was the lead instructor. Head of Department of Neonatology, IMS and SUM Hospital Prof. (Dr) Debasish Nanda, Maulana Azad Medical College Hospital (New Delhi) professor Prof. (Dr) Bijaylaxmi Behera and Assistant Professor, IMS and SUM Hospital Dr Isha Panda were the others who showed trainees the way.
Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College Hospital (Baripada) professor Prof. (Dr) Gitanjali Sethy and IMS and SUM Hospital associate professor Dr . Bikrant Kumar Prusty were the observer faculties at the workshop.
Dr Asutosh Mahapatra and Dr Susrut Das, president and secretary, respectively, of Bhubaneswar city branch of IAP, also addressed the inaugural programme.
