Thiruvananthapuram: In a freakish accident, a Congress candidate for local body elections in Kerala died after a tree fell on her on Wednesday.
Police said 35-year-old Girija Kumari was travelling with her husband on a two-wheeler in Karode area of Thiruvananthapuram district, when some workers engaged in cutting a big tree lost control of the rope. A portion of the tree fell on the couple.

Girija was rushed to a government hospital where she succumbed to injuries. Her husband had a narrow escape.
