Jajpur: Even as Odisha celebrated International Women’s Day on Monday, it was a nighmare for a tribal girl in Jajpur district as she was gang raped by four criminals the previous night.
Such was the girl’s plight that she ran on the road naked after managing to escape from her rapists.
According to reports, the victim is a college student and resides at a village near Kalinganagar. She had gone to Brahmanipal on Sunday to collect money for a scholarship with her boyfriend of Kalarangi village.
After collecting the money, the duo came to Kaliapani in a private bus in the evening.
The duo then made their way Kalarangi around 4 km away. On the way, they were intercepted by four criminals who dragged the girl to a secluded place and raped her.
The victim’s boyfriend approached a fellow villager, who works as a security guard in a private company in Kalinganagar, for help, but in vain.
In the meanwhile, the girl managed to escape and ran desperately on the road completely nude. She barged into the house of a lady home guard to save her life.
Following information, Kalinganagar IIC Ramakant Muduli rushed to the spot with a police team and rescued the girl.
On the basis of her complaint, police arrested the prime accused. He is identified as Santosh Prusti alias Kutua (31), a cook working at the Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) barrack at Kaliapani.
Police retrieved the details of the three other accused from his mobile phone and arrested them from a house at Malhara Sahi late in the night. The three were identified as Rabi (20), Silu (20) and Bablu (20).
After interrogating the four accused, police produced them in the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court on Monday. The court rejected their bail pleas and remanded them into custody.
Meanwhile, the victim is undergoing treatment at the Jajpur district headquarters hospital.
