Baripada: Two days after a tribal youth was allegedly stoned to death in Khunta area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, police on Saturday arrested his friend in connection with the brutal killing.
As per information, the body, with head and face smashed, was found lying in a pool of blood by the roadside near Badakhunta village on Friday. The deceased was identified as Ganesh Hembram, aged around 23 years, of Khaprapal village.
After conducting investigation, police arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly killing his friend over a financial dispute, sources said.
The accused, identified as Mangal Murmu, reportedly had a dispute with his friend Ganesh over money earned from selling chickens at Badakhunta village market.
As per information, Mangal retained the money after selling chickens. When Ganesh asked for his share, the two got into an argument. The dispute escalated further on their way back to Bhurudukala village on Thursday evening and Mangal allegedly attacked Ganesh with bricks, leading to his death.
After spotting Ganesh’s body, locals informed the police. A team from Khunta police station visited the scene and began an investigation. A key to the accused’s motorcycle, found at the site, helped the police trace and arrest Mangal.
