Triple Murder Accused Dies At Hospital After Consuming Poison In Odisha Village

Deogarh: A man, accused of killing three members of his family in Odisha’s Deogarh district, died while undergoing treatment at VIMSAR in Burla after he allegedly consumed poison to evade arrest.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Garia (52), a resident of Gariapali village under the jurisdiction of Kundheigola police station in the district.

As per information, villagers spotted Ramesh sitting atop a water tank, about 50 feet above the ground, in his vill

age on Saturday morning. On being informed, a police team rushed to the spot and asked him to come down. However, he refused and a high drama unfolded thereafter.

Fire service teams were later called in to rescue him. During the standoff, Ramesh allegedly consumed poison out of fear of being arrested. After nearly two hours of efforts, rescue teams managed to bring him down from the tank in a critical condition.

He was first taken to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Deogarh for treatment and later referred to VIMSAR in Burla, where he died during treatment late on Saturday.

Ramesh had allegedly attacked his wife Gul Garia (42), daughter-in-law Lipi Mahakul (24), and four-year-old granddaughter Ishani Garia with a hammer, killing them on the spot on Wednesday night. He then fled the village and remained absconding before being spotted on the water tank.
