Triple Talaq Bill: Odisha’s Ranjib Biswal, Four Absent Cong MPs Likely To Face Action
Bhubaneswar: The Congress is most likely to take action against five party MPs, including Ranjib Biswal of Odisha, for being absent during the debate on the Triple Talaq Bill in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
According to reports, as many as 20 opposition MPs — including five each from the Congress and Samajwadi Party and 10 members from other non-BJP parties — were absent in RS during the discussion. As a result, the Bill was passed with 99 votes against 84.
Congress sources said the party high command, which had issued a whip to all its RS members to be present during the passing of the bill, is most likely to issue show-cause notices to the five absentees.
Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) sources said Biswal was on a foreign tour and he must have apprised the party high command in this regard.
Biswal couldn’t be contacted for comment.
