The Triple Talaq Bill was finally passed by the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday after a 19-month wait.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supported the Bill while AIADMK and Janata Dal United walked out. In all, 99 members were in support of the Bill.
The Bill has made instant Triple Talaq illegal and violators will face three years in jail. This Bill was the first to be introduced in Parliament after the Modi government was re-elected to power.
