Washington: US President Donald Trump has raised hopes again by stating that the FDA could approve a vaccine against COVID-19 within 3 to 4 weeks.
“The previous administration would have taken perhaps years to have a vaccine, because of the FDA and all the approvals,” Trump said. “We’re withing weeks of getting it. You know, could be three weeks, four weeks.”
However, public health authorities have raised concerns that the White House is putting pressure on the FDA to approve the vaccine before elections this year on November 3.
Meanwhile, infectious diseases expert Dr Anthony Fauci had said that people “need to hunker down and get through this fall and winter because it’s not going to be easy”. He recently said that vaccine trials were going on well but it can’t be expected to hit the market till end of 2020 or early next year.
