Mumbai: Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has reportedly received a Rs 5 crore extortion threat from an individual identifying himself as Harry Boxer, who claims to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Following the threat, the actor alerted the Mumbai Police, who launched an investigation into the matter.
Preliminary findings suggest that the call may have been fabricated, as the caller’s voice reportedly did not match official recordings of Harry Boxer.
The Crime Branch’s technical team conducted a detailed analysis of the audio recording, comparing it with samples available in the police database.
Senior Mumbai Police officials said the voices did not match, prompting investigators to suspect that the threat could be a hoax.
Police suspect that the caller may have invoked the Bishnoi gang’s name to create panic. Efforts are now underway to trace the sender of the threatening recording.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has allegedly been linked to threats and attacks targeting several Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan, Rohit Shetty, Ranveer Singh and Tiger Shroff.
On the work front, Tusshar was last seen in Ahmed Khan’s Welcome to the Jungle, written by Neeraj Vora.
The comedy features an ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Farida Jalal, Lara Dutta, Shreyas Talpade, Aftab Shivdasani, Yashpal Sharma and Akshara Singh.
Tusshar is set to return with Golmaal 5, directed by Rohit Shetty.
The comedy franchise began in 2006 with the release of its first film, which featured Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Rimi Sen and Paresh Rawal in key roles.
