Cuttack: After series of interrogation spanning over several hours, the Commissionerate Police on Monday arrested Lipan Sahu, the husband of popular television actor Laxmipriya Behera aka Nikita who fell to her death on Friday night.
Lipan, a small-time actor, was detained by police on Sunday evening after the actor’s father lodged a complaint at Chauliaganj police station, accusing him of killing her. “He had come to out house to meet her on Friday and they had an argument over a family dispute. They then went to the terrace and I fear he pushed my daughter from there leading to her death,” the actor’s father alleged.
According to police sources, circumstantial evidence and on spot inquiry hinted at his involvement in the actor’ death.
Earlier in the day, Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories (DFSL), Forensic Medicine & Toxicology (FMT) and Chauliaganj police had visited the actor’ parental houe at Mahanadi Vihar here and examined the terrace. Police have also sought the help of the doctor, who had treated the actor, to gather more evidence.
The actor had sustained head injuries after falling from the terrace of the house on Friday night and died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here the following morning.
Since Nikita’s father, in his complaint, had alleged that she had to move to her parents’ house because of physical and mental harassment by her in-laws, Lingaraj Sahu and Kuntala Sahu, they too are under police scanner.
Nikita had tied the knot with Lipan of Gopalpur in 2016. The actor had been staying at her parental place since the birth of her son.
