Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported the highest single-day spike of 1833 COVID-19 cases on Friday, which pushed the affected tally to 42,550.
For the first time, Khurda (298) reported more cases than Ganjam (279) in a single day.
Khurda district has been witnessing a steady rise in COVID-19 cases for the last one month. It reported a record 312 positive cases on July 28. Since August 1, over 200 cases are being reported from the district on a daily basis, totalling to 1629.

A total of 3153 cases have surfaced between July 25 and August 7 in the district.
Though total positive cases in Khurda (5829) are less than 50 per cent of Ganjam (12359), active cases here (3175) are very close to that of the South Odisha district (3317). While the recovery rate in Ganjam is 72.10 per cent, it is 44.86 per cent for Khurda. Ganjam, however, leads with 123 COVID-19 deaths while the virus has claimed 31 lives in Khurda.
