Mumbai: In the latest episode of her talk show ‘Too Much With Kajol and Twinkle’, actor-turned-writer Twinkle Khanna shared a hilarious anecdote about late Rishi Kapoor which left guest Alia Bhatt dumbfounded.
Recalling a nostalgic birthday tweet from Rishi, which sparked bizarre rumours about her being his ‘illegitimate daughter’, Twinkle joked, “I’m not Alia Bhatt’s sister-in-law.”
“I almost became a Kapoor because of Alia’s father-in-law. On my birthday, he tweeted very generously, ‘Oh you know… when you were in your mother’s stomach, I serenaded her.’ So everybody thought that I was his illegitimate daughter. Then he got trolled and had to clarify, saying, ‘No, I am so sorry’,” Twinkle said.
Twinkle’s witty narration left her co-host Kajol in splits, but Alia, who is Rishi Kapoor’s daughter-in-law, looked visibly uncomfortable.
Twinkle quickly added, “I am not your sister-in-law, it was a mistake.”
Actor Varun Dhawan, who was the other guest with Alia, teased the latter by saying, “She doesn’t know how to react.”
Rishi’s original tweet, from where the misunderstanding stemmed, read: “Happy Happy Birthday dear one! You were in your mum’s tummy when I was serenading her in Bobby in 1973 lol.”
Rishi’s choice of words led to rumours and wild assumptions that Twinkle was his daughter.
As the rumours started spreading, Rishi stepped in and clarified that he was only referring to the film ‘Bobby’ in which he worked with Dimple Kapadia, who was pregnant with Twinkle at that time.
“Kuch logon ko problem kya hai? Kakaji and Dimple were married, Bobby was still incomplete, we shot that song when Dimple was 3 months pregnant. Kakaji-Dimple married in March ’73. Bobby released Sept 28th ’73. Twinkle born 29th Dec ’73,” Rishi tweeted later to clarify his earlier post.
