Twins Born During Lockdown Named Corona & Covid

Raipur: Even as the world is grappling against the COVID-19 pandemic, a couple in Raipur, Chattisgarh has named their newborn twins — a girl and a boy — as ‘Corona’ and ‘Covid’.

The twins were born in the wee hours of March 27 amid the ongoing lockdown that has disrupted day-to-day life across the country.

The couple said the two dreaded words, Corona and Covid, symbolise triumph over hardships that they faced for a successful delivery at a government hospital in Raipur, according to a report in the Times of India.

“The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore me and my husband wanted to make the day memorable by naming the twins as Corona and Covid,” said Preeti Verma, the 27-old mother of the newborns.

“On the night of March 26, I suddenly experienced severe labour pain. My husband somehow managed to arrange an ambulance. As no vehicular movement was allowed on the roads due to the lockdown, we were stopped by police at various places. But they let us go after noticing my condition,” Preeti said, narrating their ordeal before the delivery.

“I was wondering what would happen at the hospital as it was around midnight, but fortunately the doctors and staff were very cooperative. The twins were finally born early on March 27. The names would remind us of all the hardships we had to endure,” she added.

However, the couple said they may change their decision later and rename the kids.
