New Delhi: Twitter has finally apologised in writing for wrongly showing Ladakh in China and promised to correct the error by the end of November.
The Joint Committee of Parliament on Data Protection Bill had taken strong exception to Twitter showing Ladakh as part of China. Twitter had tendered an oral apology, but the panel, headed by BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi, sought a written explanation.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT had also served a notice to Twitter’s global vice-president, terming the mistake as a “deliberate attempt to undermine the will of sovereign Parliament of India.”
The social media giant’s deposition came in the form of an affidavit signed by Chief Privacy Officer of Twitter Inc Damien Karien.
“Twitter has now given us a written apology on an affidavit for Ladakh being shown in China,” Lekhi was quoted as saying by PTI.
“They have apologised for hurting Indian sentiments and have sworn to correct the error by November 30, 2020,” she added.
