According to police, the accused confessed to their crime during interrogation. They had reportedly sacrificed the nine-year-old to appease the Goddess for the fulfilment of their wishes.
The accused were later forwarded to the court.
A day after nine-year-old Ghanashyam Rana went missing, his family members on October 14 had lodged a complaint with Sindhekela police.
Acting on the complaint, police had begun an investigation and finally located the headless body of the boy buried under the sand. On further digging, they recovered the head.
On being informed, the family rushed to the spot and recognised the body.
Since his family members denied enmity with anyone in the village, police started their investigation suspecting that the boy might have been sacrificed by some acquaintance.
The two accused persons were nabbed on the basis of the fingerprints found on the body of the deceased.
