Two Engineering Colleges In Odisha To Shut Shop; Read Why

New Delhi: Two engineering colleges of Odisha have opted to shut their campuses due to non-takers of courses and fund crunch.

These two engineering colleges are among the 78 technical institutes across the country that have decided to “progressively close” down this year, news agency PTI reported quoting a senior official of AICTE, which governs technical institutes in the country.

Colleges that opt for progressive closure do so to enable the existing students to complete their courses.

AICTE did not reveal the names of the institutes closing down but said 31 are from Uttar Pradesh, six from Punjab, five each from Chhattisgarh and Haryana, four each from Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttarakhand and two each are from Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana and Maharashtra.

Recently, Odisha’s Skill Development and Technical Education and Training Department had informed that 4000 B.Tech seats will be reduced in all government and private engineering colleges in the state.

The decision was taken on account of large scale vacancies in B.Tech seats.
