Bhubaneswar: Two persons have been arrested in Bhubaneswar for allegedly cheating by posing as cops.
The accused have been identified as Manas Ranjan Senapati (26) of Bhadrak and Ashis Swain (23) of Puri. They were residing in Madhusudan Nagar in the city.
A name plate board written as Odisha Police, an ASI/SI cap, a police identity card, five passport size photos of Manas in police uniform, an appointment letter to Manas Ranjan Senapati as OPS issued by IG Personnel, two police admit cards, a pair of police uniform with belt, a car, 386 fake Indian currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, totalling Rs 1,93,000, were also seized from them.
The duo was apprehended by Saheed Nagar Police during night patrolling/blocking on March 24. Manas identified himself as a probationer sub-inspector, while Swain said that he was serving as a probationer constable. There was a cap of SI/ASI and a board written as Odisha Police on the dashboard of the car, raising suspicion. The fake notes were recovered during the search.

“The accused used police uniform, forged identity card and photos in police uniform and for the purpose of cheating, and are liable U/S-318(4)/319(2)/ 336(3)/336(4)/340(2)/132/296/351(2)/3(5) BNS,” a police release said.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the fake notes, people, who they deceived and the exact amount of money swindled.
