Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police nabbed two anti-socials in a couple of hours after they looted cash and ornament from an elderly woman in the busy market area of VSS Nagar here on Thursday night.
According to police, two anti-socials barged into the house of Malabika Chand in the VSS Nagar market area at arout 8 pm when she was watching TV in the first floor and asked her to give some water to drink. As the woman went inside the kitchen, they overpowered her and put tapes on her mouth and snatched a gold chain from her neck. They then looted Rs 60,000 in cash and 10 grams of gold ornaments at gunpoint. Before fleeing the area, the duo also took away her ATM card and threatened her to give them its password.
As the woman shouted for help, the family living in her house on rent rushed to her and immediately informed Saheed Nagar police station. Immediately, a team of police rushed to her house and examined the footage of CCTV cameras in the area.
The police came to know about the withdrawal of cash from the account of the woman from an ATM counter at Infocity and informed the local police there following which the Infocity police rushed to the counter. Police later came to know about the presence of the anti-socials in a nearby shopping mall as soon as they debited the money from the ATM card after Malabika informed the police soon after getting the message on her mobile phone.
Police later went to the shopping mall and caught to duo red-handed at aroud 10 pm.
Though the police narrated the incident in details to the media, they did not reveal the identity of the accused saying that further investigation into the incident is underway.
